Warsaw Pact Formed

Berlin Blockade
- There are for section the Berlin Blockade the American, British, French in the West and the Soviet in the East.
- The Berlin Blockade started on June 27,1848 and ended on May 12, 1949.
- In the Berlin Blockade they cut off highway water and rail traffic into Berlin's western zones.
- The Berlin gifted to west Berliners 2.3 million tons of food, fuel, and medicine.
- The first heightening of Cold War tensions happened in 1948 when
the Soviets imposed a partial blockade of Berlin in April, and then a full
blockade in June. - The main goal of the London Program was to establish a West German government, with the means to achieving this goal being the combination of the three western zones of occupation and a reform of the currency.

China Becomes A Communist
- China became communist in 1949.
- On the 1st of October, 1949, Mao announced the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China.
- The nationalists now imposed a blockade and Mao Zedong decided to evacuate the area and establish a new stronghold in the north-west of China.
- In the Chinese affair the Americans emerged as a major actor.
- Cars, foreigners and foreign businesses all disappeared.
- Cities became overrun
- Family life was changed. In 1950, Mao introduced the Marriage Reform Law which banned forced marriages
- The law was very blunt: “ All marriages are to be based on the free consent of men and women.”
